But getting back to our topic, check out the following sections for some of the research we found that analyzes the effects of coffee on our memory.
What Does Science Say About Coffee and Memory?
For decades, universities around the world have been trying to understand the benefits of coffee for memory.
Swiss researchers found in their studies that a little caffeine daily decreases the volume of gray matter in the brain, stimulating the individual’s cognitive capacity.
Other research suggests that coffee consumed at the right time makes memory more efficient.
A study from Johns Hopkins University, conducted with 160 people who took caffeine pills, showed good performance in memory tests.
And what’s the most recent news on the subject? Let’s see below.
Coffee for Improved Cognition and Memory
Japan’s Tsukuba University concluded that a coffee component called trigonelline brought significant improvements in memory performance and learning in a test administered to mice.
The researchers detected a change in the hippocampus region of the brain — which exists in both rodents and humans — after supplementation with this bioactive coffee compound.
Another result that brought optimism to the researchers was the reduction in neuroinflammation levels, a common complication for those suffering from Alzheimer’s.
This means that trigonelline has great potential to revitalize cognition and the central nervous system.
Given these findings, the researchers plan to conduct their next studies on elderly individuals to estimate the amount of compound supplementation needed to achieve positive results in humans.
Coffee and Alzheimer’s Prevention
Another recent study was from the University of Texas in the USA, which discovered that coffee grounds contain a component that helps prevent neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s.
They found that CACQDs — carbon quantum dots found in coffee — protect brain cells and can make a significant difference in treating these diseases.
This coffee-based substance removed free radicals and prevented side effects caused in the early stages of the disease.
However, for the studies to advance, the university is seeking more funding to conduct further tests that confirm these positive results.
Either way, it’s already a source of hope, isn’t it?
Of course, science still needs to advance to better understand the effects of coffee on the brain, but it’s already known that when the beverage is consumed carefully, it produces positive effects on the mind.
Drink Healthy Coffee and Ensure Even Better Effects on Your Health
It’s because of all these benefits that Consciência Café always recommends consuming specialty coffee, which is a bean produced organically in a sustainable and much healthier way.
